Crews host spaghetti dinner
The
White River Township Fire Department Station 51 crew hosted a spaghetti dinner
for the neighbors of the new fire station on Olive Branch Road yesterday.
"The assigned crews at the new facility cleaned it from top to bottom and
prepared food for two days to get ready for the event", said Captain Joe
Settles. "This was a total team effort", he added. Fire Chief Jeremy
Pell was on hand to meet the neighbors as well, and was giving tours of the new
station. Additionally, there were Fire District Board members in
attendance as well. In all, there were approximately 200 people in
attendance throughout the evening, eating and taking tours of station.
"This was a big hit for the neighbors, and it is a wonderful thing to be able to
invite the public in and cook them dinner, and just get to know the people that
we serve", said Battalion Chief Jim Engmark. "We would like the community
to know that the fire station is available for a tour by contacting the on-duty
Battalion Chief to schedule", remarked Engmark. The phone number to call
is 888-2338 to schedule an appointment. Sunday's event was for the
immediate neighborhood surrounding the new station. An official public
open house and dedication ceremony will be held sometime in the late spring when
the weather is more conducive to such an event. Information will be posted
on the web site when it becomes available.
