Fire damages Greenwood home

A house in Greenwood was extensively damaged in a blaze Monday that the fire chief said started in three different locations.  The Greenwood Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire in the 100 block of Westridge Boulevard.  Firefighters determined that fires started in three different rooms, Fire Chief Steve Dhondt said.  No one was home, and no one was injured during the fire, he said. The fire department had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes after arriving at the scene, Dhondt said.

A neighbor reported seeing smoke in the house at 1:29 p.m., he said, and Greenwood and White River fire department engines arrived at the scene within three minutes.  The living room, family room and a bedroom sustained extensive smoke and fire damage, Dhondt said. Most of the drywall and several pieces of furniture in the rooms were destroyed, he said. He said there was no estimate of damage available.  "When no one is home, that's very suspicious," he said. "Our investigators will have to take a hard look at this."  (Reprinted with permission from the Daily Journal)
