New twist on trash

         Highland Park residents that are currently served by the Republic Waste Management company came home to new extra large trash barrels in their driveways Tuesday afternoon.  The new trash receptacles are provided free of charge to the subscriber, according to a company spokesperson.  The larger cans are designed to make it easier for both the consumer and the company.  The new cans are much larger than a standard trash can allowing fewer containers to be moved to the curb.  Additionally, the cans have large wheels making it easier to transport the extra weight.  The company also has new trucks with specially designed lifts in order to dump the can automatically, thereby reducing potential injury to the employee.  After receiving positive feedback from other customers, the company is phasing in the new cans throughout much of its current system.
